08 Jun Zone change paves way for former Massillon Kmart to become indoor/outdoor storage center
MASSILLON – A development group wanting to transform the former Kmart property into new business opportunities cleared a major hurdle Monday night.
Massillon City Council voted 9-0 to approve a rezoning proposal needed to build an indoor/outdoor storage facility at the Kmart site, 2600 Lincoln Way E. Overall, the effort includes grocery and retail shops for the highway frontage section of the property.
Council’s action to change the zoning from general business (B-3) to light industrial (I-1) on a northern, seven-acre section of the 11.7-acre property was necessary to move ahead with the storage center effort.
